>> SIGN JACK'S PETITION TO SAVE WINDSOR POST OFFICE HERE <<
This week, Member of Parliament for Windsor, Jack Rankin, visited Windsor Post Office on Peascod Street, after it was named as one of over 100 branches across the country threatened with closure as part of the company’s restructuring programme.
He met with the branch manager, Penny, and Laura Tarling, External Affairs Manager for the South of England from Post Office Ltd.
Rankin made clear the strength of feeling locally to keep the busy branch open – evidenced by the over 1,370 local people and counting who have signed his petition.
According to the Post Office’s own data, every two in five visits to a Post Office results in money spent in neighbouring shops and premises – Rankin argued the Peascod Street branch acts as an invaluable support structure for the business community in Windsor to thrive.
The next nearest branches are in Clewer and Dedworth, which are 1.4 and 1.7 miles away from the Windsor branch respectively.
During the meeting, Post Office Ltd advised that no decision has been made about the future of Windsor Post Office, and they plan to share a further update in March after consulting with the unions. In the meantime, they have been exploring whether franchising could be a viable option, and have been inviting expressions of interest in operating a post office in Windsor.
Commenting, Jack Rankin MP said:
“People across the community were dismayed to hear about the potential closure of the Peascod Street branch. I started my petition to bring these voices together and tell the Post Office’s bosses to save Windsor Post Office.
“At a time when Windsor’s town centre faces multiple challenges, including increased car parking charges, the state of the public realm and increased business taxes, the closure of this branch would do further damage to our town centre.
“I made this explicitly clear during the meeting and await a further update in March.”
