After the grand unveiling, Jack said:
"It was a privilege to attend the unveiling of Datchet's first blue plaque, honouring Sergeant Henry William Engleheart.
He was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1900, for his extreme act of bravery in the Second Boer War near Bloemfontein, South Africa. Our forces faced intense resistance after retreating through enemy lines, being outnumbered four to one and navigating four deep ravines whilst under heavy fire.
One soldier, Sapper Webb, was left in distress after his horse could not climb the bank - Sgt Engleheart came to his help despite the incredible danger and returned him safely to the rest of the party.
I had a brilliant chat with Alison Crampin, who is the Chair of Datchet Village Society, Derek Hunt (right), a local historian, and Captain Frederick English of the King's Royal Hussars about the importance of the plaque and Sgt Engleheart's life.
A huge well done to them for their fundraising efforts to ensure this story lives on for generations to come in Datchet, and thank you to Datchet Parish Council for funding it."
